I find the commentary to be interesting, if a little painfull. The painfull part is not the fault of the commentators, but that readers and retailers seem to think that DC is producing such "blah" fare. I disagree, but I can't force people to buy what they don't wish.

I especially appreciate the long-term look over previous months and years. That sort of analysis goes a lot further than just saying : "look! Sales are down again! The book is going to fail! The company is going to fail!"

I think the sales for Detective are really pretty good. Pre-OYL, the book was consistently in the high 30K range, and it only sold in the 60s because it was a crossover with Batman. So 67,000 for a stand-alone detective story is quite solid, especially if it can stay close to that level as Dini's run continues.

Marc. Thx for the numbers and comments for the smaller publishers' comics like image, vertigo, virgin, wildstorm.

it's quite interesting to see those numbers too.

Who keeps giving Bruce Jones writing jobs? Not only did he screw up the Hulk royally, his last few efforts (Man-Bat, Warlord and Nightwing) are just crap, either in the sales department, creatively, or both.

Busiek is hit or miss with me, but his Superman and Aquaman work have been stellar. It's a damn shame those books aren't attracting more readers, and a shame that the public (both comics-buying an non) seem bored with Superman.

Jack of Fables is a great read, too. With Y ending and American Virgin evidently failing to attract readers, I guess that the Fables-verse is the franchise to watch at Vertigo these days.

"Marc, what is the criteria for inclusion to these lists?"

Currently, it's anything by DC Comics, plus anything in the Top 100 that's not by Marvel and DC, plus, if I still find the time in any given month, anything else I find interesting enough to comment on, on some level.

Generally, though, expect the DC numbers.

Winter Men? Yeah, I'd to know as well.

It would be interesting to see numbers from Archaia Studios, Avatar, Boom and Burly Man as well (or do they not appear on the charts?).

I'm waiting on the collection for Dini's run. I think the big OYL bump for Detective already came at the start of Robinson's run.

"Detective Comics #821 — 67,345 (+ 2.1%)"

This is really disappointing. I would have thought that Dini would have inspired more confidence in the buyers. Sadly this cements just the notion that it - with a few exceptions - doesn´t matter who you let be doing the book. The buying public just don´t care.

And I like btw the comments of Mr.Frisch and Mr. O´Brian. It is a nice contrast to the ridiculous hype the big publishers try to sell as information.

re: "I’m really getting tired of this guys negative comments.", not sure if i'm in the minority here, but i'd say it's probably a huge benefit to these Month-to-Month sales reports that neither Marc-Oliver Frisch nor Paul O'Brien have sworn blind allegiance to their respective publisher.

Having said that, though, i really don't think that either is unnecessarily negative and i believe they are both doing a really good job of something that must be quite a chore to do on a monthly basis. Considering the subject matter and relative granularity of analysis these guys are doing, i'd think it's perfectly acceptable that they should occasionally question marketing practices or even the existence of a book.

(Sorry to drag Mr. O'Brien into this, but i get the impression that he gets even more of this sort of complaint than Mr. Frisch does)

Yes, it seems somebody pulled the emergency brakes on WARLORD, CLAW THE UNCONQUERED and MANIFEST ETERNITY, which all end in November. SKYE RUNNER is a limited series anyway, though.

Claw is a mini series according to first issue solicits, although it is important to note that it was going to be a mini at first then got changed to an ongoing(I guess do to sales numbers of Red Sonja/ Claw mini at first) and then went back to being a mini series.

And Manifest Eternity is done with #6 that month as well.

I would expect Rokkin and Skye Runner to end momentarily as well.
