PopImage has a brief excerpt of Frank Miller’s 9/11 essay for NPR:
I could never stomach the flower-child twaddle of the Sixties crowd and I was ready to believe that our flag was just an old piece of cloth; and that patriotism was just some quaint relic, best left behind us.
It was all about the ideas. I schooled myself in the writings of Madison and Franklin and Adams and Jefferson. I came to love those noble, indestructible ideas. They were ideas, to my young mind, of rebellion and independence, not of idolatry.

Dear Frank Miller,
Twenty years ago I wrote you regarding a page from the “Dark Knight Returns�.
I was struck by the image of the Batman holding the body of a suicidal general whose body was draped in the American flag. I assumed this was shorthand for those who thought they could do anything if they wrapped themselves in the flag.
I have reasonable doubts regarding the genesis of 9/11. Was it the Romans who said if you would know who committed a crime then look to see who benefits from it most?
Or did I read that in some comic book.
Anyways, be careful who you hang with.
