Hibbs said:
"Ten copies, Heidi, that’s the minimum order. ANY store can do THAT! Not ten copies of one book, neither — that can be 1 copy each of 10 different titles.

Seriously, ANYONE can hit that."

And what's that minimum for free shipping? It's pretty easy to hit as well....

Brian, in all your years dealing with Diamond, did you ever think you'd actually be saying "Yes, please. I'll gladly accept your offer of free shipping."

Good times.

I'll wiegh in from a (new) publisher's perspective. After releaseing three GNs with Top Shelf, I've started Manx Media as an imprint to publish GNs. The first book is out now, 40 Hour Man by Stephen Beaupre (art by myself).
Diamond refused the book, checking the box that read "not visual enough for our market" on a form rejection letter. Okay, I bear no ill will. I believe Diamond will come around to carrying Manx Media titles.
But meanwhile, via my book trade distributor Biblio, I've already shipped books to a variety of wholesales and chains, including close to 200 books to Baker & Taylor.
I certainly want a relationship with Diamond, but from my perspective, it's nice to be doing business, via Biblio, with Baker & Taylor, Barnes & Noble, Ingram, and Brodart, with others in the pipeline.
Finally, I don't think anyone mentioned that Baker & Taylor is indeed a complete book trade wholesaler, but they do not command any exclusive, as they deal with all the book trade distributors (who do want exclusives). Also, B&T fulfills the tradional role of being America's main library wholesaler.

Every "DM" store should have an account with B&T if for no other reason than a back up source for books DCD is out of.

"Naturally, only stores that carry a significant amount of graphic novels will need to set up a B&T account."

Ten copies, Heidi, that's the minimum order. ANY store can do THAT! Not ten copies of one book, neither -- that can be 1 copy each of 10 different titles.

Seriously, ANYONE can hit that.
