I grew up in the Bronx and both of my parents were ardent Yankee fans, so pinstripes are actually encoded onto my DNA. And I spent a few long moments yesterday flashing back to '79 when I heard about Munson's plane crash on 1010 WINS. I was 8 at the time and beyond crushed. I also vividly remember the memorial game when they retired his number and the crowd cheered so loud and long my ears rang for about an hour afterword...As for Lidle I'm surprised The Boss didn't spout off somthing to th effect of "Very Sad. Of course he'd still be alive today If we'd made it to the ALCS. Let this be a lesson to you Joe".

"If a Yankee wants to destroy America, what chance can we possibly have?"

The best worst gallows humor joke I've heard about the story was from a guy who said that after the plane crash he thought there would be a second strike, until he realized it was a Yankees pitcher...

Me, I'm just adding this to my reasons to hate the Detroit Tigers...

I don't know what articles you were reading yesterday afternoon, but the ones I read mentioned Munson and Clemente in the same paragraph nearly every time.
