Manga Simpsons?

Maybe, according to Spacecoyote’s post on deviantART:
Long story short: Bongo Comics, Matt Groening’s comic book company, is hiring me to do the pencils for a short manga-style Simpsons comic. Also, I’ve been contacted by 20th Century Fox. They want me to do work for them somehow. I might get a job for the upcoming new Futurama series!
Why all this sudden success? Why are my childhood dreams coming true? This is madness, I tells ya! MADNESS!

That’s horrible looking! My god lets hope that crap isn’t what the movie looks like.

When Bongo first started, it did brilliant parodies of the various comic book styles, and The Simpsons books were better than the TV show. (Then, in an ironic, real-life parody of the comic book industry, the entire creative team left the series and blandness ensued.)
The manga theme seems like a fun idea for another short send-up. (Though in this case, General Disarray would tell Sideshow Bob, “South Park did it.”)
Anyway, what’s this about a new Futurama series?!!

Lisa looks like Yo Gi Oh.

hahaha, and the Beat’s comments section starts looking like Newsarama’s.

[…] According to THE BEAT, the artist who posted her work online turning The Simpsons and Futurama into manga-style got herself signed to a deal with the makers of The Simpsons comics… and may get to work on the upcoming Futurama series. Now THAT is an Internet success story. […]

I kinda always expected that the Simpsons would do a manga turn someday, and I gotta say I find it a little more interesting the way this is described (a brief manga-style story in Bongo Comics) than it would be had it happened through the product-making grinding wheels of corporate synergy (Theoretical Executive: “So, The Simpsons airs on Fox and Fox owns HarperCollins and HarperCollins distributes Tokyopop. Why don’t we get Tokyopop to do one of these manga things for The Simpsons! That’s a genius idea!”)

This has got nothing,,,but really, NOTHING to do with Manga!
01/18/07 at 7:38 pm
Don’t let these jerks bring you down, this illustration is excellent.

today the fashion word is “Manga” tomorrow “Komnkc”

“My god lets hope that crap isn’t what the movie looks like.”
Of course the movie isn’t going to look like that. It’s just an artistic tribute. A parody in a different style. FOR FUN. Not to scare people who are have a chip on their shoulder about Manga. The movie will look just like the show.
The Simpson comics have a long history of doing treehouse of horror specials where they get different artists to draw the simpsons in their own unique styles. If they do a manga special or two it would be in keeping with that.

I’d recommend that people follow the link to the girl’s gallery: http://spacecoyote.deviantart.com/gallery/
It’s obvious the girl draws a lot of parodies, and there’s even a pretty awesome picture of “My Neighbor Totoro” in a Matt Groening style. The sample above doesn’t even look like one of her better works (and in fact, she admits on her website that she would have put more effort into it if she’d known it would get so much attention.)
And really, when it all comes down to it . . . why not? Why shouldn’t the Simpsons have a manga-style parody? If it emphasizes all the traditional stereotypes of manga, I’d personally find it pretty damn funny. And if anything, the more cliche’ the better. That’s what the Simpsons is all about!

What? We’re allowed to have fun with our comics? ^_~

I love this drawing! It’s very cute
], and Marge’s hairdo. Nice touches!
And regular Lisa and Yugioh share the same hairdo anyways ^_^
I love the little touches, like the unwanted affection of Milhouse [mirrored by Skinner], creepy Sherri and Terri [the writers have managed to use them in fun new ways in the past few years, like the secret twin language

Well I think this drawing is adorable and it makes me chuckle. Plus, look at the rest of her gallery, she obviously puts a lot of joy into her work and that’s always refreshing to see! I think it’s awesome! =)

Nutty. Now, her Futurama painting? As the Doctor would say, fantastic.
01/19/07 at 7:52 am
No, Rivkah, don’t you get it: Serious comicbook fans demand highly rendered, photo-realistic art (probably depicting rape and/or fighting) in their comicbooks. It is the law of comicdom!!!!!

[…] This post at The Beat about a manga parody of The Simpsons is only mildly interesting, as the drawing in question doesn’t even look like manga, but then I read the comments and wondered, why does manga always bring out the trolls? I find superhero comics utterly unreadable, but I don’t drop in on Newsarama and tell them so; I just figure other people have different tastes. But manga seems to stir up some sort of deep-seated hostility in mainstream comics forums. Weird. […]

I remember seeing this a while ago on her site. Eerie, but excellent. ‘grats upon her! Madness indeed.

I love reading all these people who are bashing this girls art. You guys are idiots. You think that the people behind the simpsons are the ones who created this, when in all actuality, this picture was more or less a tribute to the simpsons. My bro hates manga and he even found this picture enjoyable. She didn’t do this cause she was working for the simpsons, she did it because she loves the simpsons. Get your facts straight.

That is so freaking cool! It’s amazing! It’s a simple translation of artforms beautifully done! I love the originals, but I absolutely would also love to see something like this just for the diversity of it, or even a real-person movie.
Kudos! This is great work
