Considering they originally intended to call the series Hellraiser until Clive Barker jumped the gun [apocrypha? I don't remember where I read that], I'm sure the studios thought that Hellblazer was took close a name to be distinguishable. That said, I actually liked the movie and I'm glad they didn't use the name. It was a good story - just not Hellblazer!

Speaking of Paul Pope, ICV2.com has a two part interview with First Second's Mark Siegel. He discussess the new books coming out, including a color book by Paul Pope. Also of note will be a comics textbook by Abel and Madden!

The time that I saw it backfire worst was when I was on a Vertigo panel and (Vertigo editor) Karen Berger announced to a hall of 4,000 people, “The biggest news item I’ve got is that Warner Bros. is going to make a John Constantine movie (2005’s ‘Constantine’)!”

I was actually THERE! He left out the funniest part, which is Brian Azzarello responding by saying "This is what I hate about you f***ers. You whine and whine about 'when is the movie coming out,' then you do nothing but bitch and moan about how they make it!"

And half the room bursts into applause.

Though, yeah, Reeves as Constantine. What were they thinking?

(And could they NOT call it Hellblazer?)
