How about calling that the Max Gaines award since Bill's dad basically "repackaged" the first comic books from newspaper strips?

The Eisners definitely are comics' Oscars though- some of those choices are always a little "Tom Hanks" for my tastes. All in all though it's not a bad year and many of the choices were excellent. Nice to see Gumby get some recognition as it is a fabulous book- it could easily have won for best humor as well. NPR's segment on San Diego focused heavily on the Eisners and it shows that there is a real role for the awards now that the mainstream media is finding comics and needs an angle to show people why they should care about certain comics.

Interesting... Sandman wins another Eisner. Either that title, or New Frontier, holds the record for recycling. I hearby create the Bill Gaines Award for Repackaging. It shall consist of two parts: a memorial Tiffany sterling silver platter and multiple gold watches, all found on eBay. The original inscriptions shall remain, with new inscriptions added. The platter will travel to the current record holder. The watches to anyone who has won awards in different years for the same work.

No Marvel outside of Brubaker? Interesting...

The Eisner's are definitely the Oscar's to Wizard's Teen Choice Awards. Nice to see a lot of good quality stuff (Fables and the Bolland HC especially) get recognized.

Oh, and Paul Pope is a God.
