I terribly enjoy reading your blog! I tell everyone about it!

Also, I have a terrific deal on a home loan for you!

(Does anyone else get a lot of spam about replica watches? I think 40% of my spam is for cheap Rolexes)

As you probably know there's tons of anti spam wordpress plugins on the wordpress site.

As an addition to Akismet I have JSSpamblock running (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jsspamblock/) which really seems to do the trick... Never had a spam message come trough so far.

I've also seen this new style of Spam. Sometimes not with links at all... but the IP address will originate from some 3rd world country. Sneaky lil' bastards. Welcome to Spam 2.0.

The new mode of comment spam seems to be to set up blogs, then write posts like these that link-back (or "ping") a real blog's post. That makes them appear as comments on Wordpress blogs, and seems to be an effective way to get past Akismet and other filters. Bastards. I've been getting hit hard lately too.
