					<description>Henry Petroski's &quot;The Pencil : A History Of Design And Circumstance&quot; is an excellent source.  I'm partial to Pelikan myself (made in Mother's hometown), but would not refuse a genuine Thoreau pencil. And to remove the glamour, when using a pencil, you're writing with mud. Really good mud, but mud nonetheless.</description>
