Kat Kan, good comments.
I honestly do not get it, how difficult could it be to sell kid-oriented comics to kids?
Do what the makers of Archie do.
Get the kid comics out of the hobby shops, and into the corner video store, into the supermarkets, wherever newspapers are sold, wherever candy is sold. Movie theatres. Family restaurants.

Man.
Okay, I am stopping now. Stopping. Done. MMphh MMMMphhh.

RE: the Francoise Mouly interview and Al's comment - And my school kids will tell you they want those kiddie comics NOW. When I've got first graders loving Little Lulu, 2nd-8th graders devouring Bone and the Goosebumps Graphix, and lots more, I can tell you I've got kids ready for TOON Books. And I'm talking about a small, private, Roman Catholic pre-K -gr. 8 school! (I'm now a part-time school librarian, but I've been "corrupting" them with graphic novels and comics for two years before this.)

In all three interviews, my name wasn't mentioned enough. Spurgeon needs to do a better job of spreading the Haspiel Gospel!

I assumed you meant "the city" as in "Manhattan". I was just bustin' chops!

Alex,
I'm actually copy editing a few things for Tom to repost and one of the things I put in was "In the New York City Area" not including Brooklyn. But yes, you are right...sorry about that

From above, : "Oh, of course. It’s obvious. Comics for young kids. It’s really well done. [pause] We wish we could do it, but we can’t.”

Ha ha, comics for kids. Brilliant. But Francoise Mouly must realize that this new, shocking approach is too much, too soon, too fast for bookstores. Good Lord, ...

We three are the only ones that I know of in the city that do events other than Barnes & Noble or the Virgin mega-store. We’re the only three comics retailers that really do events.

Ahem.

I can think of at least one other store in New York City with a very full and exciting events calendar.
