Burns in BELIEVER

200801THE BELIEVER mag, which routinely features covers by Charles Burns, now has an interview with him.

I try to achieve something that’s almost like a visceral effect. The quality of the lines and the density of the black take on a character of their own—it’s something that has an effect on your subconscious. Those lines make you feel a certain way. That kind of surface makes you feel a certain way. That’s the best way I can describe it.

You will have to buy the magazine the read the whole interview — drat! — but a TCJposter sums up the news bits

There’s a page from his new project, which looks good. It’s in color, no publisher yet, drawn two pages at a time, about William S. Burroughs and Tintin.

I may be reading too much into that, but the really twisted part of my sense of humor hopes not.
