Stan deserves this award BUT the first award should have gone to JACK 'KING' KIRBY who was a NEW YORK COMIC LEGEND before Stan even had a job! No doubt money and publicity played a factor. Jack and Joe Simon were the pre-eminent team in comics in the 40's and put Marvel(Timely) in the 'big time' with Captain America(pre-Stan). It is no coincidence that Kirby and Stan would be the greatest team of the 60's. As Stan so often said, JACK KIRBY WAS THE KING! If Kirby does not get the second award, something stinks about NYCC!

Let me get this straight.

This award has been created to honor a native New Yorker who has contributed greatly to New York . . .

So why the f*** are they holding the ceremony at a British chain store?!!

Wouldn't it make more sense to do it at a New York landmark?

Oh, that's right. Homeland Security deemed New York as not having any landmarks, their excuse for slashing NYC's Homeland Security funds.

I suppose it's too much to ask that the Comics Legend Award actually be given away at a comics venue.
