The Eagle Awards anounced at last
The Eagle Awards winners have been posted. We’re told a 17-year-old girl has been put in charge of the awards for next year; which will surely lead to a more timely posting of the winners, if only on her LJ:

As I worked at both Wizard and Marvel.com in 2007, I believe this now makes me the most celebrated man in the comics industry.

Wizard magazine? That is so weak.
Have these people ever cracked open an issue of The Kirby Collector or Back Issue magazine over at Two Morrows? Do they know what real comics journalism is?
Even the biased friggin’ Comics Journal would’ve been a better choice.
Wizard…feh!

The Wizard selection is by far one of the most depressing additions to list that I can imagine. I’m not much of a fan for any of the journalistic coverage of comics but Wizard is just ridiculous.
Also, why does the Eagle awards seem to ignore the rest of European and other comics? Manga just isn’t all that great in my opinion and most of it that makes it to Britain and USA is pop crap. Is there no award that covers the entire spectrum of the medium. At least in Angouleme American and British comics in French editions are in contention.

Don’t slag off the entire UK electorate by a few bad choices. I don’t know who who the hell voted for some of these - but as I said elsewhere, probably Stockholm syndrome for the zombie crowd.

Remember guys - the Eagles? They’re a popularity contest. Voted by the fans, for the fans.
If the nominations are boring and sucky? That’s because a large chunk of people voted and MADE that so.
And don’t throw the blame purely on the Europeans. This year apparently was a higher number of US votes, due to the online system.
You want a better awards system next year? Don’t bitch about it AFTER the event, do something about it BEFORE the event. Like perhaps nominate some GOOD suggestions.

The 17 year old young lady in question is, I believe, the daughter of the organiser and is coming aboard to help out with administration with the intention of getting the winners out in a more timely fashion.
And Tony Lee is right. The awards are voted for by fans so if you have a problem with the winners this year do something about it next time. Lobby for your favourites. Get your local store to promote the awards, blog about it or get on the messageboards before hand. Do something like that and the results are still crap then you’ve every right to bitch about it, you at least tried to change it.

It is quite a bit depressing to see that a reprint of American comics won the “Favourite Colour Comicbook - British” award.

Spec Spidey is the original homegrown Spidey comic (unless it has recently changed its focus/name).
