Mystery of the day

Manga
We’re not exactly sure what this is, but during World War II it would have been treason.

I do believe that this is the US Navy’s comic book. The George Washington is a NUCLEAR powered carrier to shortly be based in Japan. The Japanese have never been happy with nuclear powered vessels for obvious reasons. The book is to calm their fears over a nuclear incident involving the ship that will take up residence there, I believe. Thanks for all that you do Heidi. JeffH

It’s a U.S. Navy commissioned manga to prepare Japanese residents for the arrival of a American Battleship.

Way cool! One of many comicbooks produced by the U.S. government!

    Hope they distribute it here!

Carrier, not battleship. The US Navy currently does not have any battleships commissioned.

It had to be done because the last non-nuclear carrier, the Kitty Hawk, was recently decommissioned. Until then, it was the only carrier that was homebased in Japan, though others made calls at times.

Torsten, my understanding is that did a single print run to distribute for free near the home port of the George Washington.

Torsten, it’s available for free download in English and Japanese. I’ve got a link to the PDF on my blog.
