I think you're right that AMERICAN BORN CHINESE was the first (and probably still is the only) comic/graphic novel nominated for the National Book Award, and after a quick scan of the NBA site, I don't see that FUN HOME was nominated for the award.

FUN HOME was nomiated for the similarly-named-but-completely different National Book Critics Cricle Award, however.  So maybe that's the source of the error in the original report...</description>
