On the night of the banquet, he got into the elevator that I was riding, took one look at my badge, and then cried out, "You're the fan from Hawaii!" He took the time to chat with me and make me feel important to him for that moment. I was a college kid at the time, it was my first-ever fan activity, and meeting someone of his stature in fandom was amazing. I met Forry once, back in 1977 at the Worldcon (held in Miami that year).
