For an excellent fictional depiction of World War One, I recommend “Charlie’s War”, published by Titan. Each hardcover edition contains articles about the War and the creators behind the series. Set mostly at the Front, the series also chronicles domestic life in England.
If you want some laughs instead, Private Snafu is recommended, as are the various World War Two cartoons produced by Warner Brothers and Walt Disney.

Greatest war-themed comic ever was Bill Mauldin’s UP FRONT, IMO

Titan is also reprinting soon Garth Ennis’ wet dream comic:
“The war character I’d drop everything to write would be Johnny Red, who appeared in Battle, a British anthology I read as a kid. British fighter pilot flying for the Russians. Hopefully, one of these days, someone will sort out the rights, and I’ll get a crack at it.”

I’m off to the movies. Haven’t gotten a break in ages, and I’m really looking forward to it. Star Trek and T4. Happy Memorial Day everybody.
